The Mind Body-Connection: Healing starts with awareness.

What is the mind-body connection?

Mind-body connection is a powerful bridge between the mental/emotional state and the physical state of the body; the mind influences the body, and the body influences the mind. Have you ever been so stressed that you start to have headaches or stomach issues? Or have you ever suffered from physical pain and your loved ones make you laugh only to realize you didn’t feel that pain in that moment? That is the powerful connection between the mind and body that, when embraced and understood, can support the healing process. Think of this connection as your personal wellness team and start to get to know it better.

How the Mind Impacts the Body:

  • Emotional trauma can get stored in the body, especially when chronic, creating fatigue, anxiety, and many other imbalances.

  • Chronic stress can lead to high blood pressure, heart disease, anxiety, and depression.

  • Low-vibrational thoughts (Negative thoughts) can contribute to a decrease in cognitive functioning, suppressed immune system, negative self-image, and hormone imbalances.

How the Body Supports the Mind:

  • Holistic modalities such as breathwork, energy healing, tapping (EFT/TFT), yoga, and meditation help to calm the body and rewire its connection to the mind.

  • Movement. A brisk morning walk, exercise, dancing, or any movement that wakes up your body helps to stabilize the mind by releasing hormones such as serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine.

  • Rest is vital in maintaining a healthy body. It supports mental, emotional, and physical rejuvenation. Rest is not just about sleep it also encompasses learning how your body tells you when to slow down or take a break and then honoring it.

  • Nutrition because you are what and how you eat. Fueling your body with healthy well-balanced choices supports cognitive functioning and mental health. In Ayurveda, it is important to practice mindful eating. Allow a quiet distraction free space, when possible, set your devices aside, and take your time to enjoy your food. Food prepared at home with love is infused with your energy making it a double win!

Here are a few ideas to help support your mind-body connection to start healing!

  • Mediation: Aim for 10 minutes twice daily until you become consistent then increase your time.

  • Tapping (EFT/TFT): This is a great way to release emotional blocks

  • Morning Walk: Before you start your day take a 15-20 minute walk, if morning isn’t doable walk in the evening

  • Warm water in the morning: boil 12-16 oz of purified water, add freshly squeezed lemon or lime, let sit until warm enough to drink and enjoy. This helps to remove toxin buildup in the body and supports digestion. Don’t forget to drink plenty of water throughout the day to stay hydrated.

  • Journal: This is a great way to release your thoughts and state what you are grateful for.

Get curious with what works for you and remember it is OK to take baby steps. Baby steps can lead to long-lasting changes so don’t try to do it all in one day. Pick 1-2 things that you want to try and start there, you can always adjust as you go. The important thing to remember is you are supporting your mind-body connection, and one small consistent self-care item creates beautiful change.
