Just Breathe: My Journey from Prescription Pads to Personal Healing

Just Breathe: My Journey from Prescription Pads to Personal Healing

“Just breathe.”
That’s what I tell myself every year as I hear my name called back to the exam room for my annual doctor’s appointment.

The dreaded scale.
Because unless I fit neatly into the box of what a body “should” look like, there’s always the look.

The nurse takes my temperature and blood pressure in silence. Then comes the polite, “The doctor will be with you shortly.”

Minutes drag by until there’s a soft knock on the door. The white coat walks in, glances quickly at my chart, and asks how I’m doing—with a blank stare.
“Well,” they say, “looks like you’ve gained some weight. I’m going to write you a prescription for a weight loss shot. If your insurance doesn’t cover it, I’ll prescribe something else. Also, reduce your caloric intake and exercise more.”

In my head, I’m screaming, what a joke!

My labs came back perfect. My blood pressure, cholesterol, and hormone levels—balanced.
Wouldn’t it make sense to ask about my stress, sleep, digestion, or even my menstrual cycle as a woman in my mid-forties?

But no. The advice is always the same: take a shot, eat less, exercise more.

When I mention that I’m taking a holistic approach to my wellness, I’m met with that familiar pause—the held breath, the skeptical stare, the lecture that follows.

And in that moment, I feel unseen, unheard, and reduced to a number on a chart.

We Are Not Numbers — We Are Whole Beings

The truth is, we are human beings, not statistics.
We’re not meant to fit into one-size-fits-all boxes.
We’re meant to be in tune with our bodies, minds, and spirits—to seek change that is sustainable and rooted in self-awareness.

I’m grateful that I have the tools and knowledge to listen to my body’s inner intelligence and allow it to heal as a whole. But I also know that millions of people don’t—and that’s what breaks my heart.

Healing Begins with Awareness

So, I began to listen.
I tuned in to my stress and nurtured it according to my Ayurvedic mind-body type.

I made small, sustainable changes to my daily routine.
I realized that as a high Kapha type, I actually wasn’t eating enough—most days I barely reached 800 calories.
When I started to nourish my body instead of depriving it, everything began to shift.

I adjusted my workouts to match my energy and digestion. I focused less on punishment and more on movement that felt grounding, joyful, and supportive.

And most importantly, I let go of the numbers on the scale and started using my feel-good scale instead.

Redefining Health — The Ayurvedic Way

I may not be at my “human goal,” but I’m hitting my body’s goal every single day—by honoring it.

I’m feeding it intelligence with food as medicine.
I’m calming my mind with meditation, compassion, and love.
I’m connecting to the laws of nature through Ayurveda—aligning my routines with the rhythms of the day and the seasons.

I may not weigh what the doctor expects, but I am the healthiest I’ve ever been in my life.

Because I stopped outsourcing my health—and started listening inward.
I tapped into Ayurveda and intuitive healing, and I created my own Farmacy right at home.

Your Body Already Knows How to Heal

The scale will always share numbers.
Doctors will always write prescriptions.
People will always offer their judgments.

But all of that is temporary.

What’s eternal is your body’s intelligence—its wisdom, its capacity to heal when you nourish it from within.

Ayurveda isn’t about creating a version of you that society approves of.
It’s about helping you step into the version of you that feels alive, balanced, radiant, and at peace.
It holds space for your truest self—mind, body, and spirit.
